When I first started researching and subsequently teaching the Tupler Technique® back in 2011, I had been a certified personal fitness trainer specializing in prenatal and postnatal fitness for more than five years. Prior to my certification, there was little information about the cause and treatment of diastasis recti. There was also practically no education for trainers or the general public on how to work out properly when dealing with this condition.
My Search for a Solution
After having my third child in 2010, I sought information on how to successfully heal my diastasis recti. At that time, every fitness professional, doctor, or medical expert I consulted told me that core exercises might help, but that surgery was the only true solution. As someone who believes surgery should always be a last resort, this was frustrating.
I invested time and money into Pilates, yoga, and barre-based classes. I tried what I thought were proper core exercises, including crunches, inversions, oblique work, and planks. However, despite all my efforts, my core strength did not improve. In fact, my belly size increased, and my lower back pain worsened.
Discovering the Tupler Technique®
Thankfully, in early 2011, I discovered the research-based Tupler Technique® program. I reached out to Julie Tupler, who was visiting San Francisco for a conference. We arranged a meeting, and I immediately knew that her groundbreaking program was going to be life-changing.
Unlike other programs, the Tupler Technique® provided a structured, daily protocol and a straightforward 4-step approach to healing the core muscular system and diastasis recti. I had finally found the missing link to healing my condition.
Why the Tupler Technique® Works
Since becoming a Tupler Technique® provider, I have taught this method to countless clients, using it as the foundation for my own fitness and core rehabilitation. Over the years, I’ve witnessed significant growth in awareness about diastasis recti. However, treatment protocols remain vague and often conflicting. Many individuals attempt various fitness or medical approaches, yet they struggle to heal because they are missing one or more critical steps of the Tupler Technique®.
The 4-Step Tupler Technique® Approach
The Tupler Technique® consists of four essential steps that work together to heal diastasis recti and restore core strength:
- Performing the Tupler Technique® exercises correctly: These foundational, therapeutic exercises are designed to strengthen the transverse abdominis muscle.
- Splinting: Wearing a splint helps reposition the muscles and allows the connective tissue to heal properly.
- Developing awareness of the transverse abdominis muscle: It is crucial to engage the core during all daily activities to prevent further stretching of the connective tissue.
- Getting up and down correctly: Proper movement techniques prevent unnecessary strain on the core muscles.
Client Success with the Tupler Technique®
When clients begin the Tupler Technique®, they immediately regain neuromuscular connection to their core muscles. This reconnection is essential for healing the core and closing diastasis recti. Many clients come to me after trying other methods without success. However, once they follow the full 4-step Tupler Technique® approach, they finally see progress.
The sense of relief my clients feel when they begin their healing journey keeps me dedicated to my work. The Tupler Technique® consistently delivers results, proving to be the missing link in diastasis recti recovery.
