Why do I Still Have a Large Guy Gut Even Though I Exercise a Lot?

The most obvious sign of a diastasis recti is a protruding belly—the proverbial “guy gut.” Another is a protruding belly button, or “outie,” is an absolute telltale indication that a person has a diastasis. This has nothing to do with a person’s weight or fitness level, it is because their recti muscles are apart.

You might mistake a diastasis for a chubby guy gut, but much to the person’s frustration, it still sticks out and hangs there even with diet or general exercise.

WHAT CAUSES A LARGE GUY GUT?

The most likely cause of the bulge in either of the cases above is the internal organs pressing through the space created by a diastasis between the abdominal muscles. So be prepared: your big guy gut might not be fat— your organs might be literally sticking out!

WHAT PROBLEMS DOES A LARGE GUY GUT LEAD TO?

It goes without saying, when your organs are thrusted forward, you’re open tor a host of gastrointestinal problems. Who could be comfortable when their guts are stuffed into the wrong place?

These are some of the problems that it could lead to:

  • Poor posture
  • Back pain
  • Bloating after eating
  • GI(Gastro-Intestinal) issues
  • Hernia, in extreme cases
  • Constipation
